Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about joining and playing in the Red Hook Men's Softball Over 37 League.
When is registration and how do I sign up?
Registration begins in xxx and ends on xxx. The link to sign up is xxx.
Who is eligible?
Anyone over the age of 37.
Where and when do we play?
The season runs from April through September. All games are played at the Red Hook Recreational Park. Game times are 8:15pm unless otherwise noted and last for seven innings. There is batting practice before each game, so come early to get some swings in and warm up.
What kind of bats are used?
If you are under the age of 50, you must use a wooden bat. Players over 50 years old can use an aluminum bat.
What is the pitching like?
It’s modified, which is an underhand pitching style that restricts the arm's backswing and rotation to prevent the pitcher from using the full windmill motion seen in fastpitch softball. So somewhere between arc and fastpitch.
How many players are on each team?
Each team has 15 players. There are ten players on the field at a time, and everyone must play at least three innings in the field. Everyone who shows up bats every time in the order regardless of whether they play the field every inning.
What if I have trouble running?
Pinch runners may be used after a batter gets on base.
What happens if it rains?
The field has great drainage, so if it’s not too bad, we might play, but your team’s coach will alert you if the game is cancelled. Makeup games will be assigned for a later date and posted here under the Schedule section.
